Hotel Saint’s new restaurant, The Cardinal, opened on May 1 and serves an eclectic mix of classic European cuisine with an all-day dining concept. Found on the ground floor, the hotel restaurant is conveniently situated in the heart of Aldgate – perfect for locals, travellers and of course, hotel guests.

Diners have their pick of a cosy indoor setting or the fresh air of the outdoor seating area, and the restaurant is open from 7am to midnight, with last orders at 10.30pm. On the menu, there’s everything from burgers to delicious salmon and lamb shank on offer – plus a few unexpected dishes like sweet and spicy Gochujang chicken wings, Earl Grey baked cheesecake and the fruity, chewy pavlova, which is a must-try for those with a sweet tooth. Alternatively, guests can choose from a three-course set menu with four options per course.

Guests can enjoy a continental buffet breakfast with the option to order one freshly-cooked menu item too. The choices are very limited, however, with just eggs on toast or hot porridge available on offer. The buffet includes freshly baked pastries, artisan bread, preserves and spreads, fruit, yoghurt parfait, overnight oats, Chia seed pudding, homemade granola, muesli and a selection of cured meats and cheese. A vegetarian frittata is also available.

Options here aren’t limited but it may be a letdown for some hungry guests expecting unlimited eggs, bacon, and other cooked items. The breakfast buffet also lacks allergen tags which makes it difficult for those with allergies or intolerances to determine exactly what they can eat. That said, the waiting and kitchen staff are very accommodating and communicative regarding allergens on menu items.

Anyone looking to explore the culinary wonders of the Square Mile should be sure to at least enjoy a drink or two at The Cardinal. Though the menu is plentiful with a range of classics and aperitifs, the bar is manned by a very knowledgeable mixologist who is willing to stir up whatever takes your fancy. The Moscow Mule is a must-try for Vodka fans, as is the refreshing mojito which does the classic recipe justice.
